But yes, breaks!Rae Oestreichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11102209066412105186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8624302039838757491.post-23541794181381493072015-02-19T21:17:32.383-07:002015-02-19T21:17:32.383-07:00I absolutely hate taking breaks in the middle of W...I absolutely hate taking breaks in the middle of WIPs. Once a draft's done? Sure. In the middle? I feel guilty, too.

I've got so many unfinished ideas, though. Honestly, many of them I'd love to go back and finish, but only when the time's right and, most of all, I can give it the attention and respect it needs.

Thanks, Kaitlin!Rae Oestreichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11102209066412105186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8624302039838757491.post-29576955248437829242015-02-19T13:59:12.602-07:002015-02-19T13:59:12.602-07:00I put away a first draft for months. And usually by then, I've forgotten everything and can find all the things that don't make sense. :) Breaks are necessary! *high five* Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14326504782862856078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8624302039838757491.post-2003334381524867422015-02-19T11:04:38.981-07:002015-02-19T11:04:38.981-07:00So true! I felt guilty, like I was abandoning it, and I was afraid if I took a break I would never finish. But I've learned not only is it okay to take a break, but it's okay to stop writing a novel if it's not working.

I'd worked on this one fantasy trilogy for years and when I stopped, I realized after my break that I wasn't ready to come back to it yet. This led me write other things and grow as a writer. Will I ever finish it? Maybe. But getting burnt out on it was one of the best things that happened to me.

KaitlinAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
